Before I understood that I had to collect the stick to start the game, I died once. I closed the tab too, but gave it another chance. You really should give the player the stick from the get go and place a money pick up on the road. (Placing something to pick up is a good idea because there's nothing indicating that it's a horizontal scroller.)
Depending on enemy density I used bow or throwing axe and mostly circle strafed to win. I only used the mace against the boss, with the occasional ranged circle strafe to regenerate health.
If the arrow piercing and axe explosions upgrades weren't in the tree but the smithy (where they belong), I wouldn't have known about them and wouldn't have rushed them as hard as I did.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, I just pushed an update to equip the stick from the beginning and moved the other pickups a bit. (I've also added a small army protecting the king and a bonus gold pickup at the end)
I'll keep working on balancing the weapons so all of them have their use case.
Not sure I understand the last bit with arrow piercing and explosion upgrade though. Do you think they should be at the blacksmith so players don't try to get them before they have the weapon that uses them?
Is there any purpose for anything but the OP bow?
in theory, the mace should be good against large groups of enemies, the throwing axe should be better than bow against stronger enemies at range.I’ll work on improving the balance, or making each weapon much stronger than the previous.
Really fun. I like the variety of weapons but being able to pick them all up so quickly means we only end up using like 3 total. Maybe make them harder to reach or make certain enemies weak to different weapons
Thanks, that’s true, I’ll try to balance the weapons a bit better. I’m planning to add more weapon-specific upgrades, so that might help as well. Which weapons did you use most?
